Volunteering | With The Horses
Work alongside our barn staff and assist with Barn Chores, Cleaning Stalls, Paddocks & Aisle Ways, Leading Horses & Grooming Horses
Step 1
Complete an application via our hub on VOMO.
Please make sure to fill out the application completely, as it contains emergency contact information as well as waivers.
Please be sure to regularly check your email and texts, as that is our primary method of communication.
The phone number you provide should be one that is able to receive text messages.
Parents: Please be sure to create the profile using the name and contact information of the person who will be actively volunteering. Within the profile, there is a place to include parent contact information if needed.
Step 2
Once your application is received and reviewed, our Volunteer Coordinator will reach out via email , text, and/or call to schedule an interview.
Interviews are done either by phone or on the farm depending on availability. You can expect the interview to take 15-30 minutes. We will be asking a variety of questions to get to know you better, as well as looking for some more information on how much time you are willing and able to commit to volunteering with us.
Again, please be sure to check your email and texts regularly!
Step 3
After your application is accepted, you will receive an email with an orientation deck inclusive of introduction to the LOHR team, barn rules, important notes regarding our herd & a virtual tour/demonstration. Additionally, you will receive our volunteer handbook & the volunteer level checklist.
An important step in ensuring a secure and trustworthy environment, we will request you to complete a background check before finalizing the process. This involves a one-time fee of $25 to cover the associated costs. *Please refer to the email for information on how to submit this fee.
Step 4
Once that clears, we'll be thrilled to have you join our Morning or Afternoon Chores! You'll have the exciting opportunity to learn alongside our dedicated volunteers and staff, gaining valuable firsthand experience as you shadow them in their daily tasks.
Morning Chores are 9:00-11:00 am, and Afternoon Chores are 1:00-3:00 pm. *It is important to show up at the designated times due to the feeding schedule for the horses.
You should dress for the weather and wear safe, comfortable, closed-toe shoes (you will be walking and/or standing for most of the day on dirt, mud, barn floors, etc.)
