Manny’s Rose
aka “Rosie”

Rosie, a chestnut Thoroughbred born in New York on May 7th, 2002, raced only three times before becoming a broodmare. She lived a quiet life in Pleasant Valley with her daughter, Midnight. However, when her owner's health declined, their future became uncertain.

Facing the heartbreaking reality of his illness, the owner reached out to Lucky Orphans. Our Executive Director was deeply moved by the owner's dedication to his horses and visited him in hospice to finalize the transfer.

While we admired the owner's desire to ensure Rosie and Midnight's well-being, we initially lacked the space to accommodate them. We placed the mares in foster care at a facility that supported other rescues. Unfortunately, after a few months, concerns arose about their welfare.

With heavy hearts, we contacted the authorities and, with their assistance, visited the farm. The situation was distressing, and we immediately brought Rosie and Midnight to the safety of Lucky Orphans.

Today, thanks to the compassion of our supporters, Rosie is thriving! She is a cherished member of our lifetime herd, enjoying the peaceful and loving environment she deserves.
